Nickthereal Chou chooses Sennheiser Digital 6000 for his exceptional music
Ever since his acclaimed debut in 2009, Nickthereal Chou has been wowing Mandopop fans with his unique talent, versatility, and perfect stage shows. His music spans a range of styles and elements, including rock, hip hop and rap.
His hits regularly make it into YouTube’s top lists, with “Shame on Me for Loving You” even being the most viewed YouTube video in 2022. Nickthereal has gained wide recognition in the Mandopop scene, winning the Mandarin Idol award at the Metro Radio Mandarin Hits Music Awards Presentation and Most Promising Singer‐Songwriter Gold Award at the Hito Music Awards. Since 2022, he has toured across Asia with his “REALIVE Tour”, using a Sennheiser Digital 6000 system.
In addition to his performance duties, Nickthereal has also elaborately designed the REALIVE Tour, and is its creative director. This commitment has resulted in two major awards: The internationally acclaimed K DESIGN AWARD – Gold Award for stage design, as well as the 2023 DFA Asia’s Most Influential Design Award – Silver Award.
His pursuit of perfection extends to the selection of his audio equipment. As his musical styles vary from rock to rap to lyrical songs, the microphone system of choice had to be able to capture and reproduce each style beautifully and accurately.
Yenkai Chuang, monitor engineer, suggested Digital 6000 following the recommendation of a peer, and recalls the intensive tests the team performed on the wireless microphone: “We put it through its paces with different music genres, checking the microphone’s timbre, clarity, dynamic range and bass attenuation caused by distance.
Nickthereal also tested and compared the performance on the indoorPA system and on his in‐ear monitors, and gathered feedback from the outdoor crew. We found that D6000 meets our audio needs perfectly, and transmission is very stable and safe.”
Digital 6000 can be used with a wide variety of microphone capsules; Nickthereal chose a Neumann KK 205 super‐cardioid condenser microphone capsule to bring studio‐quality sound to his live shows.
“Nickthereal’s voice is strong and full of emotions. The sound quality of the KK 205 is very delicate and sensitive, it is able to convey the rich depth of his voice, making it powerful and more engaging. The KK 205 is very well suited for singers with an expressive voice like his,” Chuang added.
The Digital 6000 system, with its proprietary Digital Audio Codec (SeDAC), delivers the sound of Nickthereal’s capsule clearly, with a wide dynamic range, and also ensures RF stability and reliability even in extremely challenging environments. “Even when Nickthereal runs off the stage to interact with his fans, the D6000 can maintain a stable connection without any issues. Not only does this give us great assurance, it also presents a smoother experience for the audience,” Xiaopang Chen, FOH engineer, said. “In addition, the system has a large battery capacity and very fast recharge speed. As a result, we never have to worry about battery power, even during intense onsite work.”
